Each week from July 10 - August 14, we will be sharing a new post from a 6-part series about Ayurvedic practices and TBI. Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest holistic health systems. Our contributor, Bethany Cantin, is an ayurvedic practitioner and yoga therapist, who has integrated ayurvedic practices into her life and has found these to be essential throughout her healing journey following a TBI.
This blend of “superfoods” provides the brain with the protein, omega rich nutrients and the good fats it needs to support your health and TBI healing for the day. Commit to having such smoothies regularly. Your brain health will come to depend on the vibrant healing properties and will kick into healing mode the minute you take the first sip.
In a Blender
A big handful of kale
1/4 + cup frozen blueberries
1 scoop of finely ground flaxseed
1 scoop protein powder (I like Vega brand vanilla)
1/2 + cup almond milk
2 tablespoons coconut oil
1/4 + avocado
Add as much water as you need to thin it out to your liking
*Note: Ayurveda discourages mixing bananas with other ingredients, as it creates a paste that is difficult to digest and this sludge ultimately leads to a buildup of toxins. So, get creative with your happy brain smoothie and add additional fruits and greens if you like…just save the banana for another time when you can enjoy it on its own.
