BEGIN EACH DAY WITH PURPOSE!
BRAIN HEALTH | 2.29.2016 | BY DAYA ALEXANDER GRANT, PH.D., M.S.
Each morning is a fresh start - a chance to begin anew. Your canvas is blank and you can paint it with the colors, shapes, and stories of your choice. The first hour of wakefulness can set the tone for the entire day. So, instead of hastily and robotically moving through the morning, be mindful in performing each step of a well-planned routine.
Here are five ways to begin each day with purpose:
Spend a few minutes each morning in silence. Meditate on the inner peace and clarity you want to carry with you throughout the day.
Make your bed. Remember last week’s post on getting organized? Your outer world is a reflection of your inner world. Also, this simple task can remind you that the little things matter.
Write down someone for whom you are grateful. Perform all daily actions in honor of that person and notice how your attitude changes.
Schedule your day. To-do lists can be overwhelming, but if you schedule time for each task, it is easier to accomplish.
Eat breakfast mindfully. Instead of eating on the go or skipping breakfast altogether, sit down (with the TV off) and spend 20 minutes enjoying the taste of your food or the warmth of your coffee.
Let’s conclude with the wise words of Alex Hitchens (you know, Will Smith’s character in the comedy, Hitch) . . .
“Begin each day as if it were on purpose”.
