SCHEDULE TIME TO REST

While healing from a TBI, whether it’s a concussion or a severe injury, it’s necessary to allow your brain ample time to rest.
Nighttime sleep is important, but it can often be elusive while recovering from a TBI. Many people experience exhaustion all day, but then as soon as their head hits the pillow at night, insomnia strikes. Sleep problems are incredibly common after all injury severities, so instead of fighting against that, consider increasing your sleep during daytime hours.
Begin by scheduling rest periods throughout the day. At our LoveYourBrain retreat last week, we had a daily rest period from 1-3pm daily. It served as a wonderful opportunity, in the middle of the day, to withdraw from the dynamic day and allow the brain time to recharge for the late afternoon/evening activities. Even if you’re not tired, your brain is working extra hard to both heal and process information. Allow it the time and space to heal by turning on some relaxing music, closing your eyes, and surrendering to the stillness.
