BRAIN HEALTH | 6.11.2018 | BY ABBIE ELDRIDGE, MS, CCC-SLP, CBIS
There is no shortage of nutritional information and suggestions out there. One consistent champion for brain health, however, is salmon, due to its composition and contribution to healthy fats for the brain.
The brain is composed of a large percentage of fatty acids, which are required for its structure and function. The omega-3 fatty acid Docosahexaenoic acid or DHA is critical for survival, but is not produced within the human body, so must be consumed through food sources. Salmon and other oily fishes, as well as high quality supplements, are shown to be the most effective way of obtaining these necessary fatty acids.
To optimize your health and brain function, consider adding salmon to your menu on a consistent basis. Your brain healthy diet may support cognitive function and heart health.
