We are seeking Volunteers for the following roles. Please read through the key responsibilities thoroughly, and if you meet the required skills and expected commitment, go ahead and complete the application.


Volunteer: retreat Kitchen Support Crew

These individuals will act as the assistants to the Head Chef at an LYB Retreat, preparing brain nourishing meals for 50 people each day. We value and support an equitable community. Every person involved in the retreat participates to the best of their ability, as we learn, share, practice and have fun together! During the week, you will have opportunity to:

  • Participate in community through yoga, shared meals, workshops and activities

  • Learn about TBI and resources that facilitate healing and wellness

  • Deepen your connection to brain health practices

  • Support people in a variety of ways to maximize everyone’s participation in the week

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Head Chef with meal preparation x 3 meals per day 

  • Follow menu created by Head Chef

  • Assist with shopping

  • Assist with dish clean up 

  • Assist with dish preparation and delivery

  • Prepare ingredients for recipes (chopping, slicing, etc)

  • Able to use a paring knife and a chef’s knife

  • Feels comfortable following recipes given by Head Chef

  • Familiar with whole food cooking process

  • Experience cooking for large groups

  • Has an affinity to connecting with others and answering meal-based questions

  • Maintains a safe and clean work space

Volunteer: RETREAT Neuropsych / Medical Professional (Nurse, Doctor, Therapist, Social Worker, etc)

These individuals will serve as the medical professional at an LYB Retreat. We value and support an equitable community. Every person involved in the retreat participates to the best of their ability, as we learn, share, practice and have fun together! During the week, you will have opportunity to:

  • Participate in community through yoga, shared meals, workshops and activities

  • Learn about TBI and resources that facilitate healing and wellness

  • Deepen your connection to brain health practices

  • Support people in a variety of ways to maximize everyone’s participation in the week


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be familiar with health needs of all participants (via health forms and personal conversations)

  • Organize health information and implement a system for tracking and addressing needs for each participant

  • Attend to illnesses or injuries of participants

  • Serve as point person for ensuring all participants follow medication regimen, which may involve daily reminders or direct supervision for administration

  • Maintain a watchful presence over the health and safety of all participants

  • Contribute to discussions and resources for promotion of brain health and wellness

Background

  • Experience practicing and/or teaching mindfulness

  • Preferred experience working directly with the traumatic brain injury population

  • Experience in resource facilitation and support for the TBI community

Volunteer: YOga program grassroots outreacher

These individuals are passionate about sharing the LYB mission with their local community, with a particular emphasis on the TBI/concussion and caregiver population who can directly benefit from our FREE yoga program.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hang fliers at local medical facilities and non-profits who serve the TBI/concussion population

  • Hang fliers at local community centers such as local yoga studios, libraries, coffee shops, etc.

  • Post/share LYB series information on your personal social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter,

    Instagram, etc.)

  • Search social media platforms for local TBI/concussion support groups of which LYB is not

    already aware

  • Connect with and/or visit local TBI/concussion support groups to educate about LYB Yoga

  • Join a monthly videoconference meeting with one LYB full time staff and one LYB intern to share

your learnings with the larger LYB team

expected commitment

  • Expected time commitment of 5-10 hours over the course of one month

  • Must attend the monthly videoconference meeting scheduled by LYB
