LoveYourBrain Announces 3rd Annual Ride for Resilience

Global campaign educates, engages, and empowers people affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI) - often in cycling - and supports the nonprofit organization’s mission to improve their quality of life.

NORWICH, Vermont - The LoveYourBrain Foundation, the leading nonprofit organization supporting people affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI) through mindfulness, yoga, and education, is kicking off its third annual Ride for Resilience. This unique fundraising and community-building event takes place May 1st - 31st, 2023, aligned with National Bike Month. LoveYourBrain’s goal is to raise $100,000 to support their work to educate, engage, and empower those impacted by TBI and concussion.

“When you look at the numbers of head injuries in the cycling space, it’s staggering,” shared Adam Pearce, co-Founder and Executive Director of LoveYourBrain. “Through the Ride for Resilience, we're able to connect and uplift a community of cyclists through new tools, support, and information so they know where to go if such an injury does occur."

TBI is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, with more than 3 million people in the US and Canada sustaining a TBI annually. Studies have shown that cycling causes more TBIs than football. In fact, 1 of 3 injuries caused by cycling are head injuries. LoveYourBrain’s goal is to ensure people affected by concussion and brain injury - including cyclists and bikers - have access to programs to cultivate a healthy body, balanced mind, and social connection.

The Ride for Resilience - LoveYourBrain’s largest fundraising and awareness campaign of the year - supports this goal and advances the organization’s vision to create a world where anyone affected by brain injury can be connected to a compassionate community, provided new tools and resources, and supported to reach their full potential. All funds raised support LoveYourBrain’s research-backed programs, offered in-person and online to approximately 10,000 people each year.

The Ride for Resilience aims to empower those who strive to live well when life has changed dramatically, through the impactful experiences that are common in the cycling community. New for 2023, LoveYourBrain has assembled an official team of pro and semi-pro cyclists who have been affected by brain injury and are passionate about promoting brain health. ‘Team LoveYourBrain’ members include Alison Tetrick, Ian Boswell, Brooke Goudy, Lauren De Crescenzo, Ben Frederick, and more! Cyclists and individuals interested in supporting can also fundraise or join community rides all over the country including the TD Five Boro Bike Tour in NYC. If riders are looking to get involved virtually, they can join the Supporting LoveYourBrain club on Zwift to attend or host charity rides throughout the month of May.

This year’s event is powered by an array of sponsors and brands focused on supporting people to optimize health and build community, including The Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation, SANS Meal Bars, The Coffee Ride, Giant, YETI, Oura, and Therabody. “Since integrating more with the cycling community in 2019, we have continued to work to evolve the culture to one that is better equipped to support and uplift those affected by TBI,” said Laurel Crosby, LoveYourBrain’s Director of Development and Communications. “Our partnerships with these incredible companies and organizations is a reflection of that evolution, and we are honored to have their support.”

About LoveYourBrain

The LoveYourBrain Foundation is a national non-profit that improves the quality of life of people impacted by traumatic brain injury (TBI) and raises awareness about the importance of brain health. Guided by their family’s experience, brothers Kevin and Adam Pearce established LoveYourBrain in 2014 following Kevin’s severe TBI from a snowboarding accident before the 2010 Olympics. Kevin’s remarkable resilience was transformed into the award-winning HBO Documentary, “The Crash Reel,” which brought to light the challenges and prevalence of TBI. In response, LoveYourBrain developed programs and resources designed to create community and foster resilience for the TBI community. Now, LoveYourBrain’s Yoga, Retreat, and Mindset programs are offered at no cost across the globe to empower the TBI community with new tools, resources, and connections.
