Helena Allegra

she/her - Los Angeles, CA

LYB Mindset Facilitator

About me: Helena creates the kind of space she once needed herself—a place where people don’t have to pretend they’re okay, rush their recovery, or make their experience easier for others to understand.

She is a writer, multidisciplinary artist, and brain injury and mental health advocate. Her experiences with brain injury and profound loss have shaped how she understands healing: rarely simple, never one-size-fits-all, and much harder when faced alone.

Helena has a BA in Psychology, with concentrations in Somatic Psychology and whole-person approaches to health and healing, as well as a minor in Intercultural Studies. She brings that education together with lived experience and a deep respect for the connection between mind and body.

Her facilitation is warm, honest, and gently curious. She doesn’t offer quick fixes or force positivity. She makes room for people to be exactly where they are while discovering what helps them move forward.

Why LYB: When Helena first participated in a LoveYourBrain Mindset Young Adult group, she found a community where she felt genuinely understood.

That experience changed the course of her healing. Now, she facilitates so others can experience the same relief: being met as they are, connecting with people who understand, and remembering that healing happens in community.

Superhero: Helena’s dad remains her superhero. When life knocked him down, he showed her how to keep going without losing his compassion. After brain surgery, he still tried to hold a conversation, even as he struggled to find his words. After emergency open-heart surgery, he found the strength to smile and crack a joke. He also devoted himself to others. He advocated for students with disabilities, offered pro bono legal work, and mentored first-generation teens on their paths to college. His legacy of resilience, kindness, and service continues to shape how Helena moves through the world and supports others.

Resources: Helena hosts Concussion Buddies, a virtual monthly peer-support group for people navigating concussion and persistent post-concussion symptoms. The group meets on the first Thursday of each month from 5:00–6:30 PM Pacific.
