Retreat program
Volunteer: Kitchen Support Crew
Join a team dedicated to supporting brain health through nutrition! Learn core principles and recipes to nourish your brain.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist Head Chef with meal preparation x3 meals/day for ~50 people
Follow menu created by Head Chef
Assist with dish clean up
Assist with dish preparation and delivery
Prepare ingredients for recipes (chopping, slicing, etc)
Assist with shopping
Commitment expected:
Available for the entire event (full week)
Clean and Organized
Maintains a safe and clean work space
Has a positive attitude
Likes to laugh and have a good time
Takes direction well
Ability to travel to retreat location
Skill Requirements:
Able to use a paring knife and a chef’s knife
Feels comfortable following recipes given by Head Chef
Familiar with whole food cooking process
Experience cooking for large groups
Has an affinity to connect with others and answering meal-based questions
Engagement:

Participate in community through yoga, shared meals, workshops and activities
Learn about TBI and resources that facilitate healing and wellness
Deepen your connection to brain health practices
Support people in a variety of ways to maximize everyone’s participation in the week
Volunteer: Mental Health Professional
(e.g., Neuropsychologist, Social Worker, Licensed Counselor, Medical Doctor)
Join a wellness team dedicated to promoting brain health!
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee mental health and safety needs of participants and staff
Offer mental health support in 1:1 and small group formats
Review health needs of all participants via health forms and personal conversations before and during the Retreat
Willing to intervene to de-escalate and/or facilitate difficult situations regarding mental health
Support medical intake process at the Retreat
Organize health information and implement a system for tracking and addressing needs for each participant during the Retreat
Contribute to discussions and resources for promotion of mental health and wellness
Skill Requirements:
PhD, MSW, LCSW, MD, or other relevant experience
Familiarity and/or practice working in mental health with the traumatic brain injury community
Preferred experience in mindfulness and/or yoga (either individually or professionally)
Available to offer mental health and wellbeing support in 1:1 and group settings at the program
Experience or familiarity with suicide management
Ability to provide trauma-informed care
Preferred experience assisting with variable mobility support (wheelchair, walkers, canes, etc)
Commitment expected:
Available for entire event (Full week)
Available to support in 1:1 and group settings at the program
Complete a review of health forms and organize information prior to start date
Ability to travel to retreat location

Volunteer: Medical Professional
(e.g., Nurse, Doctor, OTs, PTs, SLP)

Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the health and safety of participants and staff
Lead medical intake process at the Retreat
Point person for implementing LYB’s centralized medication distribution system (daily reminders, direct supervision for administration) to support streamlined medication consumption
Be familiar with health needs of all participants (via health forms and personal conversations)
Organize health information and implement a system for tracking and addressing needs for each participant
Lead medical emergency response and support immediate illnesses or injuries
Contribute to discussions and resources for promotion of brain health and wellness
Skill Requirements:
MD, DO, RN, LPRN, APRN, OT, or other relevant experience
Familiarity and/or clinical practice working with the traumatic brain injury community
Preferred experience in mindfulness and/or yoga (either individually or professionally)
Ability to provide trauma-informed care
CPR/First Aid Certified
Demonstrated experience with seizure protocol
Preferred experience assisting with variable mobility support (wheelchair, walkers, canes, etc)
* Required to bring a laptop to perform medication tracking & scheduling

Programs
Volunteer: Outreach (no openings currently)
Key Responsibilities:
Support across all of LYB’s programs with administrative tasks
Update account and contact information in Salesforce CRM platform
Participate in weekly meetings with the LYB programs team
Spearhead necessary communications to various stakeholders
Implement outreach strategy to raise awareness about LYB programs
Brainstorm methods to reach new, diverse populations affected by TBI
Participate in the LoveYourBrain Mindset program
Skills Gained:
We value creating a supportive learning environment for volunteers involved in our programming. As such, we will provide opportunities to:
Utilize CRM platforms such as Salesforce
Learn the theory of resilience and how it can be applied to healing
Integrate methods in developing and implementing outreach strategy for engaging key stakeholders (e.g., health professionals, advocacy groups)
Develop knowledge in community-based program administration for an underserved population
Gain experience contributing to a small, entrepreneurial non-profit team.
Skill Requirements:
Two years of undergraduate work completed, Bachelor’s degree, or relevant experience
Based in the US (due to US legal stipulations), however international applicants will be reviewed on case-by-case basis
Experience with or strong interest in TBI and group facilitation
Self-starter and able to work remotely
Familiarity and fluency with Zoom
Candidates must have access to a working computer and internet (individualized IT support needs can be discussed)
Commitment Expected:
Available for at least 6 months, 5-7 hours a week
Access to your own computer with AV capacity and reliable internet
Ability to teleconference with LYB team at a regular interval (e.g., once per week)
