A Message from our Executive Director

LoveYourBrain supports people affected by traumatic brain injury (TBI) around the world. And, as a US-based organization that is working toward a more inclusive and just community, it is important to address the recent events.

Last week, the world witnessed a violent attack on the US Capitol. In times of uncertainty and unease, we often reach for the values that anchor us. And we also have the opportunity to use those values to help guide us forward. As a values-driven organization, LoveYourBrain is reflecting on how our values show up for us now, and help drive us into the change we are called to make.

We are called to ‘Be Real’ and acknowledge the environment of racism, hate, and white supremacy that is intimately connected to the violence and anger carried out in last week’s attack on the US Capitol.

We are called to ‘Be Curious’ and question our comfort zones, defaults, and assumptions, to inquire about how each of us has a role to play and actively work to be anti-racist at every turn.

We are called to ‘Be Inclusive’ and work toward a more just, more equitable, and more vibrant community, one where we speak up against intolerance and injustice and build a more trusted and inclusive space for the TBI community.

And we are called to ‘Be Compassionate.’ Compassion invites us to show up in the work of anti-racism, to be imperfect and unsure, but committed to making change. It invites us to have patience with ourselves and others, and understanding of the critical importance of the work.

There is much work to be done, and we invite you to join us as we continue to move forward. While we continue to update our actions related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on this section of our website, it’s important to keep you updated on recent momentum:

  • To uncover our blind spots and help inform our change, our entire team has begun a 3-month dismantling racism training with Michelle Johnson, which will continue through this quarter and help lay the foundation for the ongoing work we will do. Michelle is a social justice advocate, author, anti racism trainer, and yoga teacher, and she will work with our team and help establish our organization’s antiracism strategy moving forward. We believe strongly in the work Michelle is doing, and invite you to learn more about her workshops, offerings, and events: visit https://www.michellecjohnson.com/

  • To address the impacts of structural racism in yoga communities, we have established a scholarship opportunity for BIPOC to take our LoveYourBrain Trainings. You can learn more about our scholarship opportunities here.

With our deep commitments, and in gratitude for your partnership in this work,

Adam Pearce
