Regaining Focus and Intention:

How Goal Management Training Supports Recovery After Brain Injury

Wednesday, July 15th, 2026 6:00 - 7:15 pm ET
on Zoom

At its core, executive functioning is about the relationship between intention and action—the ability to plan, stay focused, and follow through on what matters most. After brain injury, this connection can become disrupted, widening the gap between what we want to do and what we’re able to carry out in daily life.

Goal Management Training (GMT) offers a practical, evidence-informed approach to rebuilding this connection. By learning how to pause, clarify goals, and sustain attention, individuals can reduce the pull of “automatic pilot”—the brain’s tendency to default to habit rather than intention—and regain greater control over their actions.

Join Kim Willment, PhD, Neuropsychologist and Director of the RENEW (Resilience through Neurologic and Emotional Wellness) Program at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, for an introduction to core Goal Management Training strategies. You’ll leave with practical tools to help you stay on track, navigate barriers, and move through tasks with greater clarity and purpose.
