LYB Mindset Affinity Groups

Online yoga, mindfulness & education to build resilience for the brain injury community. An Affinity Group is an intentionally created space for people with shared identities or life experiences to gather.

Affirming spaces for people with shared identities

At LoveYourBrain, we create affirming spaces for people with shared identities or life experiences to meaningfully connect, learn with, and support each other. We offer Affinity Groups as part of our LYB Mindset program because we acknowledge the multiple intersections of TBI and other aspects of a person’s lived experience. Our Affinity Groups are led by LYB Facilitators who identify as a member of the particular Affinity Group. They also express a strong interest in this leadership role and have strong experience as a Facilitator.

Mindset Affinity Groups

We offer a variety of Affinity Groups within the TBI community based on our community’s expressed needs and our capacity.

Caregiver - for people directly caregiving for someone with a brain injury, including offering support with activities of daily living (e.g., driving, cooking, organizing, hygiene, socializing, hobbies, etc).

Young Adult - for people 18-30 years of age navigating the TBI journey at this unique stage of life (e.g., starting school, employment, families).

Enrollment is now closed. Join our newsletter to be the first to hear when it opens!

Chair Yoga - for people with mobility or cognitive needs who are interested in or feel most supported by practicing yoga in a chair.

Athletes - is for athletes (from recreational to professional levels) who've experienced a TBI - including concussion - that impacts their ability to compete.

Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) - for people who identify as Black, Indigenous, Asian, Pacific Islanders, Latinx and other members of racially and/or ethnically non-dominant groups, including people who are multiracial and white-passing.

Other Affinity Groups:

We update which affinity groups we are offering each quarter! Check back in the future, or sign up for updates, to see if the Affinity Groups below are open to join.

Veterans - for veterans, active duty service members, and military families. We welcome those who have been affected by TBI or those who are a caregiver for someone with a brain injury.

LGBTQIA+ - for people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and other non-dominant sexual orientations and/or gender identities and expressions.

Older Adult - for people 60+ years of age navigating the TBI journey at this unique stage of life (e.g., aging process).

What drives our Facilitators

“As a BIPOC, I have experienced how it's played a role in feeling even more invisible, silenced, & isolated than the TBI journey naturally creates. Facilitating this group allows me to hold space for others like me; so, they can know they're not alone, they are supported, & that their BIPOC TBI experience does matter.”  - Kourtney, BIPOC Affinity Group Facilitator

“We come together to help and support each other through listening and learning to care for ourselves as well as our loved ones. Knowing we are not alone and that there are others who have similar experiences with loss, inadequacies and the frustrations of caregiving.” - Gioia, Caregiver Affinity Group Facilitator

“I'm an older adult, 64 years old, and have many friends, relatives, neighbors, and students who are older adults. I have taught movement to older adults for many years - modern dance, partner dance, yoga, fitness, mind-body health…My work with older adults has shown me that aging can be a rich process, even with complications due to accidents, illness, the death of loved ones, the process of a evolving identity as we age, and whatever else comes our way.” Jeanne-Marie, Older Adult Affinity Group Facilitator
