LYB Mindset Facilitator

About me: I am an only parent of 4 kids (2 at home and 2 grown).  I have Post-Concussive Syndrome and subsequent Fibromyalgia from two accidents (2015 and 2018) and my youngest child also has a traumatic brain injury and other significant trauma.  My life experiences have instrumentally shaped my ability to connect with students and clients. Professionally, I  am an Integrated Movement Therapy certified Yoga Therapist with additional training as an instructor in Parayoga Nidra, Yoga for All, Yoga and Mindfulness for Children, Aerial Yoga, Yoga for Traumatic Brain Injury and with recent schooling in the field of Clinical Herbalism.

Why LYB: My traumatic brain injuries have changed my life, and although things are quite difficult, the changes are not all bad.  Living comes with surprises that can feel like everything is upside down and will never be okay again; but somehow we learn to carry forth in a slightly different way and sometimes end up somewhere unexpectedly valuable.  Through it all, it is really helpful for me to interact with others who are also navigating the new shape that life will take after traumatic brain injury and be able to offer insight and companionship.

Superhero: My superhero is my eldest son.  He has had a difficult life with many significant setbacks that would cripple some people.  He takes everything in stride and is incredibly resilient, determined and positive.  He is also an unconditionally loving and patient support to me and has the most endearing sense of humor to uplift and lighten the hearts of others.

Resources: I am a therapist, a clinical herbalist and an adaptive yoga teacher. I specialize in helping people with a history of trauma, brain injury, and difficulties with the brain and the nervous system. I am specifically trained to teach yoga to people of varying body shapes, and I welcome and embrace people from the entire spectrum of gender and from the LGBTQIA+ community. I invite people of color to join me in my virtual studio. I am a dedicated student of Sufism and I lead study groups and love to chant with song and poetry. I am in the process of recreating my website currently, but when it is finished it can be accessed at karunaheartcenter.com
